CONFIRMATION CLASS BEGINS AGAIN in October 2025

In October, we’ll begin another round of Faith Seeking Understanding. This is a weekly class for those who want to learn more about our Christian faith and the distinctive teachings, liturgy, and history of the Episcopal Church. Meetings are mostly on Zoom and are guided by the book Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices, by Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe.

If you’re new to the church, this class will prepare you to be confirmed or received as an Episcopalian when the bishop visits St. Michael’s in 2026. But all are welcome, even lifelong Episcopalians. If you’ve ever wondered about the Nicene Creed we recite on Sundays, or what it means that bread and wine are also Jesus’s Body and Blood, or how to read the Bible, then this is the class for you! We have faith in Jesus Christ and his defeat of sin and death, and together we’ll strive for greater understanding of this great truth. Please prayerfully consider whether you’d like to participate.

The Bishop of Pittsburgh, the Rt. Rev. Ketlen Solak, made her annual visit to St. Michael’s on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

One of the bishop’s key duties is to confirm, receive, and reaffirm baptisms in her diocese, and on Sunday,

Bishop Solak did all three.

Members of our Faith Seeking Understanding class had been preparing for months for this moment through learning, prayer, and discussion.

  • Confirmation is for those who have been baptized to receive the laying on of hands from a bishop to publicly recognize and strengthen their faith.

  • Reception is for those who have been baptized and confirmed by a bishop in another Christian tradition, to fully welcome them into the Episcopal Church.

  • Reaffirmation of baptism is a chance for Episcopalians who have grown in their faith and knowledge of God to publicly recommit to their baptismal vows.

If you are new to St. Michael’s, think God may be calling you to any of these rites, or would simply like to learn more about the faith, our Faith Seeking Understanding class will begin again in October.

All are welcome!
