Nursery Attendant Position Description (as of 1/18/24)
General Description
The role of the Nursery Attendant at St. Michael’s is to
1) provide a warm, engaging presence on Sunday mornings to families with young children, aged infant to 4 years old, and
2) offer loving and patient care to the children in the nursery.
Responsibilities and Duties
Be available in the nursery from 9:00 a.m. to noon every Sunday (if the nursery is not needed for the late service, attendant may leave after 10:45 during the program year or 10:15 during then summer, being compensated $40 for time and travel)
Be available for other parish functions as scheduled in advance
Maintain a sign-in/sign-out sheet
Keep the children safely in the nursery
Take care of their basic needs, such as diaper changing, feeding, assisting them to use the potty chair, or calming down an upset child
If questions or problems arise, communicate directly with the parents by text during church
Engage the children by playing, conversing, praying, or reading to them
Clean up after the children, and keep the nursery tidy
Maintain clean sheets and blankets in the cribs
Communicate weekly with each family
Requirements & Qualifications
Be able to pick up small children, and get on the floor to play with them
Have reliable transportation
Be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED
Have experience caring for babies and toddlers
Possess good communication skills
Complete the Episcopal Church’s “Safeguarding God’s Children” online training
Pass the Pennsylvania background check
3 letters of reference attesting to experience, reliability, maturity, and communication skills
Compensation
$20 per hour (minimum of $40-60 per week)
Terms
Be able to make a one-year commitment
Communicate needs for a Sunday off at least a month in advance, unless it’s an emergency
4 Sundays off per year
Additional training to be completed
First Aid & CPR for infants and children
