St. Michael's of the Valley Kids Sunday School

Kids Sunday School Update!

Our kids' Sunday school is off to a great start! It has been great to learn Bible stories together, work on art projects, and "make a joyful noise to the Lord" (Psalm 100:1) by singing!

We will continue to meet every other Sunday for the foreseeable future. The scheduled dates are May 4th, May 18th, June 1st, June 15th, and June 29th. All classes are at 9:15am. Parents are always welcome to sit in or can attend the adult Sunday school, which meets at the same time.

If you have kids, grandkids, or friends with kids that you've always wanted to invite to church, this is the perfect opportunity! All are welcome! And if you are interested in volunteering to be present in the classroom as an extra adult, please call the church.

For more information, please refer to this page and contact the church at 724-238-9411 to sign up.

Please spread the word, and we hope to see you there!

Easter Egg Hunt 2025

Easter Sunday April 20th

We had a lovely celebration of Christ’s Resurrection at St. Michael’s. Thanks to the efforts of Cindy Purnell and the members of the Altar Guild, the church looked magnificent.

The weather was perfect for our first Easter Egg Hunt in six years. Jan Cox played joyful music as we sang our favorite Easter hymns. It was so nice to see everyone and to have families come together. Many people stayed after the late service for Coffee Hour hosted by Cate Pollina. We didn’t have electricity for the early service, but that didn’t dim our joy or enthusiasm. Jan played the whole service on the piano.

Even the power outage for the 8 a.m. service on Easter Sunday did not discourage us from rejoicing and celebrating the risen Lord. The power did come back on for the second service. The nice weather allowed for the children to have a good time hunting for the Easter Eggs outdoors. In addition to our Easter Lily memorial flowers, Ann Hewat and Mick and Cindy Pompelia donated hyacinth flowers which were to given to the children and one per family. It was a beautiful Easter celebration from start to finish.

You can view more photos on our Facebook page and in the May Trumpet.

New Study Group Forming

We are in the season of Easter. This will continue to the Day of Pentecost, which is June 8th this year. The lessons during this season will cover Jesus’ appearances and the response of the people who met him after his Resurrection.

I recently read a short book about the Resurrection written by an attorney who is a former atheist. It was similar to making a case with evidence and logic. He found that based on the evidence—biblical and historical, it is reasonable to believe this did happen.

Perhaps some of you would like to join me in reading it together. It’s entitled, “A Lawyer’s Case for the Resurrection”, by Jim Jacob, Esq. I have 10 copies of the book. There will be a sign-up sheet in the parish hall to participate. Once we form a group, we’ll determine how and when to get together. We could have our conversations on Zoom or in-person, at church or at someone’s home or some other gathering spot.
