Everything has a purpose, there are many clues—even if at first they seem loosely connected. Though a man coming back to life after 3 days may be hard to believe, there are details here that don’t contribute to the development of the story, nor do they offer clues to the truth.

We know Jesus as the Son of God, and as Our Lord and Savior, but he was also fully human, with physical and emotional needs. It is on a day like this that we remember this.

Gospel: Mark 14:1—15:47

“We human beings are a lot like thoroughbreds.”

It is a little unusual for God to instruct the Israelites to make what appears to be an idol—a bronze snake on a pole, then tell them to to gaze upon it.

“These are the only two recorded instances of Jesus being angry.”

Contrary to popular opinion, we are not born with a conscience. It is developed within a context of family where we first learn right and wrong. A Christian conscience is further developed by learning the difference between good and evil. Christians and Jews have the Ten Commandments to guide us. Most cultures have some form of moral standards by which to live.
