**VESTRY UPDATE TO THE MAY TRUMPET

REPORT ON THE VESTRY RETREAT

BY: Lisa Laskow

A Vestry Retreat was hosted by Ms. Purnell on March 31 and April 1.

Topics covered included

  • Social opportunities for the parish.

  • Transition committee responsibilities related to a new rector.

  • Reconstituting the Outreach Committee.

  • Establishing liaison persons for the various committees,

  • The desire to have more educational opportunities for adults and to re-invigorate children’s programs,

  • Preparing a job description and advertising for a new Sexton as Mr. McLaughlin will be retiring in 2023,

  • Reviewing the Buildings and Grounds Committee’s operations,

  • The need to have a closer and perhaps slightly more formal relationship with Wood Bridge Preschool as it has grown significantly in the past 3 years and now uses the entire lower level of Smith House,

  • Some discussion as to how the planning is proceeding on a mini version of the Fair,

  • AND FINALLY a discussion on the desire to return to the “Common Cup” for communion. Rev. Munz noted that the Diocese has reinstituted the common cup. It was decided that St. Michael’s would return to the single chalice starting on Sunday May 7. The only change from historical practice is that parishioners will no longer be permitted to dip (intinct) the wafer into the wine (for sanitary reasons).

  • More information to follow on this topic.
